On Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., ten girls will present their collaborative film creation at the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, 1649 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101. The eight-week program was implemented by the GCA Youth Violence Prevention Project’s founder and artistic director, Karla Duarte. At-risk-girls between the ages of 12 and 15 participated in workshops on how to prevent and safely end abusive relationships; understand their legal rights and responsibilities; and create a framework for building healthy relationships in the future. GCA girls also assisted with scriptwriting development, storyboarding and production. The final production is a paper-cut stop motion animated Public Service Announcement about “How to Break the Cycle of Emotional and Verbal Abuse.” This PSA has the support and partnership of the Break the Cycle non-profit organization.
